Various countries (2013 – 2019)
Large areas are treated with insecticides against locusts in the Caucasus and Central Asia. Since 2011, FAO has been conducting a programme to strengthen locust control in this region.
We contribute to the environmental and human health component this programme, by carrying out capacity building on mitigation and monitoring of adverse side-effects of insecticide use in locust control. Training courses were conducted in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, and we assisted six of these countries in setting up environmental and human health monitoring teams.

Practical guidelines on pesticide risk reduction for locust control in Caucasus and Central Asia were elaborated and are available in eight languages from the FAO web site.
